"Foundation given in UI gives the leeway to success, " says DVC Academic

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, University of Ibadan, Professor Aderonke M. Baiyeroju, has stated that UI gives the foundation for success to its graduates.

She stated this while receiving on behalf of Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) during a courtesy visit.

Professor Baiyeroju said the University makes all efforts to ensure that its graduates are properly taught to enable them to compete favourably with others globally.

She said the University tries its best to give the students adequate training and infrastructures so they could be properly grounded in their programmes.

She, however, stated that the University and other federal universities are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their obligations granted the paucity of funds from the Federal Government and their inability to increase levies.

She appealed to the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) to help the University of Ibadan sustain its fledgling Department of Quantity Surveing by giving it financial as well as moral support to ensure an all round development of the students.

The President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, QS Kene C. Nzekwe, FNIQS, applauded the University of Ibadan for the significant strides it had made in advancing the field of Quantity Surveying with the establishment of the Department which commenced academic activities with a team of qualified academic staff and a cohort of twenty-five students.

He commended the proactive efforts of the Acting Head of the Department Dr. Leo Feyisetan Olagbaye, MNIQS, for actively seeking external support to complement the university's resources, thus showing exemplary leadership and dedication to enriching the learning experience within the department.

He urged the university management to further encourage both students and staff to participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences at both local and international levels by facilitating sponsorship for such programmes.

Additionally, he requested the provision of modern learning facilities, teaching tools, and a computerized quantity survey studio to enhance the competitiveness of graduates from the department in the labour market.
