Medical Equipment Remanufacture to happen in UI
Efforts aimed at establishing a remanufacturing centre at the University of Ibadan for the provision of affordable healthcare in Nigeria are already ongoing.
To this end, stakeholders from Glasgow, Lagos, and Ibadan have attended an international workshop on Medical Equipment Remanufacture convened at the Design Studio of the University of Ibadan.
Attendees are collaborating on the project funded by the Royal Society London. It was hosted by Professor Akinwale Coker of the Faculty of Technology, who is the Principal Investigator of the remanufacture project.
Professor Winifred Ijomah, Director of the Scottish Institute for Remanufacturing, Glasgow, emphasized the significance of medical equipment remanufacturing for developing nations such as Nigeria.
She cited its potential to save foreign exchange, create jobs, and enhance healthcare accessibility.
The Principal Investigator, Professor Coker, outlined the project's objectives, which are mainly to address Africa's remanufacturing infrastructure deficit.
Dr. Chibueze Achi, another participant at the workshop, discussed plans for the proposed Medical Equipment Remanufacturing Centre in Ibadan, emphasizing the need for a robust business model and logistics network.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Professor Oluyemisi Bamgbose, SAN, has affirmed the University of Ibadan's support for the project, highlighting the University's track record in effective management of international collaborations.
