The University of Ibadan CARTA Team
The University of Ibadan CARTA Team organised two specialised workshops for Academic, Professional, and Administrative Staff (APAS) from 24th to 27th January 2023 at the CARTA Seminar Room, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
The workshops are part of step-down institutional implementation activities, in line with the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) 's mainstreaming initiative. It is an offshoot of a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) workshop held in Uganda in July 2022.
The overall aim of the APAS Workshop is to strengthen the capacity and stir the enthusiasm of university staff to implement and support quality research and doctoral training programmes at the institution, thereby enabling the participants to understand the contributions made by various role players, including academic, professional and administrative staff, towards supporting the training of Ph.D. students and research activities in the University.
Over 46 participants, representing various parts of the university workforce that contribute to research and the research training process (lecturers, librarians, administrators, bursary, grant and IT personnel), were well represented at the workshops.
CARTA Pedagogy and Andragogy methods, characterised by interactive presentations, role play, marketplace, poster presentations, icebreaker -halala, and brainstorming sessions, were adapted for use at the workshops.
Professor Akinyinka Omigbodun and Dr. Funke Fayehun (CARTA focal persons); Dr. Ayodele John Alonge and Dr. Folusho Balogun (CARTA doctoral graduates); and Dr. Dauda Busari (a participant at a previous CARTA training workshop), jointly facilitated each of the two-day workshops.
The participants were thrilled with the richness of the workshop contents; impressed with the quality of engagement and the wel coming atmosphere at the workshop venue. They are committed to taking lessons learnt to their various faculties and units, thereby becoming change agents in the University.
