UI RECEIVES TEAM FROM PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY, U.S.A.

In furtherance of the Kabiyesi Olowu Tertiary Institutions Consortium (KOTIC) partnership drive between some tertiary institutions in Southwest Nigeria and some foreign Higher Education Institutions (HEI) the University of Ibadan has received a team from the Pennsylvania State University, U.S. A.

The team was in UI to establish a strategic partnership.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Aderonke M. Baiyeroju received the team on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS.

Professor Baiyeroju said the University of Ibadan gives the foundation for success to its graduates and makes all efforts to ensure that the graduates are properly taught to enable them to compete favourably with others globally. 

Professor Baiyeroju was excited that the Olowu of Owu Kingdom Oba (Prof.) Sakariya Adelola Matemilola (FNSE) and the leader of the visiting team, Prof. Sylvester Osagie are alumni of the University of Ibadan, saying this would further strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions.

She assured that the University of Ibadan was always willing to collaborate to promote strategic international partnerships adding that the University currently has over 180 active MOUs with foreign institutions/organisations.

Chief Abiodun Oladimeji Lasile, the Orunto of Owu Kingdom who spoke on behalf of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom said the partnership visit was for the betterment of the partner institutions and the society at large. 

He, however, encouraged the University of Ibadan to take advantage of the opportunities embedded in the collaboration.

Prof. Sylvester Osagie, the Associate Director of African Partnerships at Pennsylvania State University, U.S. A., and leader of the delegation said he was delighted to be back at his Alma Mater, the University of Ibadan. 

Earlier, an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, a First Class graduate of Mechanical Engineering, His Royal Majesty, Oba Professor Saka Adelola Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, had put together a Consortium of Nigerian institutions of higher learning to collaborate with identified American institutions.

The would-be partner institutions in Nigeria, are the University of Ibadan; Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; Bells University, Ota; Crescent University, Abeokuta; Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye; Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta; and Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

The institutions are expected to collaborate in such thematic areas as renewable energy, climate change, and environment, Information/Data Science, health, archaeology, archival and historical documentation, and entrepreneurship.

The visiting team held a meeting with faculty in the identified thematic areas.

The collaboration is expected to include faculty and student exchange, Train-the-Trainer programmes, and study abroad programmes.
