UI PHARMACY STUDENTS WIN AT FUEL AFRICA 2022
A team from the University of Ibadan participated in an entrepreneurship and healthcare innovation programme, focused on building early-stage solutions to address UN-SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, with a focus on access to healthcare and non-communicable diseases.
The innovation program tagged Fuel Africa 2022 was launched by Futurize Ltd., U.K., and held between March 17-25 2022 as a virtual event, involving 12 universities, 84 teams, across 7 countries in Africa. The event was sponsored by AstraZeneca (through the A.Catalyst Network) and Microsoft, with Brystol Myers Squibb and FAMFA Oil as co-funders.
At the end of the Hackathon, the team comprising largely of Pharmacy Students from University of Ibadan took the 3rd place, behind a team from South Africa and Kenya that took 1st and 2nd place respectively. Their award-winning “Healthbloc” is a blockchain solution to combat the distribution of fake drugs in Nigeria, at each stage of the supply chain, from Manufacturers to patients. The organisers believe that their solution will generate a positive impact.
