DISTANCE LEARNING CENTRE: NUC RE-VALIDATES NINE COURSES
It gives me joy to announce on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Okayinka, FAS that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved nine programmes for the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre. It is indeed a reward for a labour, which has not been in vain.
The center in a dogged effort to register new strides in Open and Distance Education had presented three new programmes (B.A. History, B.Sc. Sociology and B.Sc. Computer Science) and six old programmes (B.Ed. Adult Education, B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling, B.Ed. Educational Management, BLIS. Bachelor of Library and Information Science, B.A Communication and Language Arts, and B.Sc. Statistics) for the NUC validation and revalidation respectively.
These efforts had been initiated long before the Professor Bayo Okunade tenure ended. I must commend his dogged leadership.
A twenty-man NUC Team visited the Centre between May 1 and 4, 2018. Through the three-day intensive exercise, we have come out victorious.
I sincerely appreciate our amiable Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, FAS and the Management Team for the unflinching support they have been giving to the Centre. This is indeed a laudable achievement for our great university. Again, I must acknowledge the leadership of the erstwhile Director of the centre, Professor Bayo Okunade and former Deputy Director (Administration), Professor S.O. Oyetade who was part of that team.
The exercise could not have been successful without the profound involvement of Professor Alex Ugwumba and the University Accreditation & Ranking Committee. Similarly, the Director of Academic Planning, Professor V.O. Okoruwa is commended for his support. The DLC in-house Accreditation Committee led by Professor Femi Akinwunmi is also duly acknowledged.
I thank Heads of the nine Departments now on board for their commitment to this course that led to our 100% success. Finally, hearty thanks to all the stakeholders of UIDLC. Words are not enough to quantify how grateful we are at the Centre.
However, this stride calls for more support from you. We hope to enjoy your continued goodwill as we take up the apparent challenges that come with this expansion of programmes.
Thank you.
Professor Oyesoji Aremu
Director, UIDLC
