APPOINTMENT OF THE DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR (ADMINISTRATION): PROFESSOR EZEKIEL OLUSOLA AYOOLA
The Governing Council has approved the appointment of Prof. Ezekiel Olusola Ayoola as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) with effect from Tuesday, 9 November, 2021.
Prof. Ayoola was born on September 26, 1955, to the family of Late Papa Samson Ayoola and Late Madam Felicia Ayoola of Jagun Compound, Apaara, Oyo, in the Oyo East Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria.
He is a proud alumnus of the University of Ibadan. He graduated in Mathematics with Second Class Honours (Upper Division, in July 1984. He had the best result in the Mathematics graduating class of 1984. He obtained M.Sc in Applied Mathematics (1988) and a Ph.D. Mathematics effective 5 January, 1999; all granted by the University of Ibadan.
Professor Ayoola conducted his doctoral research in the field of numerical procedures for solving quantum stochastic differential equations. Beyond the doctoral work, his research has addressed under diverse conditions, qualitative and quantitative studies of solutions of quantum stochastic differential equations and inclusions with applications to quantum measurement theory, quantum optics, quantum finance, quantum open system, and lately quantum computation and information theory. He has made substantial contributions in these fields. He has published research articles in the most competitive and best mathematical journals in the world. The reviews of his research articles in the Mathematical Reviews database published by the American Mathematical Society (AMS) show major contributions in his field of research. This earned him recognition and appointment as a Reviewer in January 2009 by the AMS.
The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) is a member of the Nigeria Mathematical Society, Nigerian Association of Mathematical Physics, and an Affiliate Member of the American Mathematical Society. He is mentioned in Professor Scott Williams' web pages on Mathematicians of the African Diaspora, (http://www.math.buffalo.edu/mad/PEEPS/ayoola_ezekielo.html) created to exhibit the accomplishments of the people of Africa and the African Diaspora within the Mathematical Sciences.
Many of his publications have been indexed in respectable research databases including the Scopus, Mathematical Reviews by the AMS (Mathscinet), Google Scholars, and the Web of Science.
Prof. Ayoola was appointed by this University as an Assistant Lecturer on February 2, 1989, promoted to the position of a Lecturer Grade II, in October 1992, Lecturer Grade I, in 1999, Senior Lecturer in 2002, Reader in 2005 and finally Professor, effective October 1, 2008. Thus, he becomes a Professor within 10 years of the award of his doctorate. He served as the Head of the Department of Mathematics from October 2009 to August 2014.
Professor Ayoola had his postdoctoral research training at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy during the year 2000 - 2001. The ICTP is a major UNESCO - sponsored research centre with the mandate of assisting Mathematics and Physics researchers based in developing and least developed countries of the world. In addition, he was a Swedish Institute Guest Scholar at the School of Mathematics, Chalmers University of Technology, Goteborg, Sweden from October 2004 to July 2005.
He was granted a Research Fellowship as a Regular Associate of the ICTP starting from January 1, 2003, to December 31, 2010. Professor Ayoola was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Winston Salem State University, North Carolina, the USA in 2005 and the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2006. He served as an External Examiner in many Universities in Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa. He served as Chairman and member of many Science and Mathematics Accreditation Teams to Nigerian universities on many occasions. He has supervised many first degree and Master's Projects. In particular, Professor Ayoola has successfully supervised twelve Mathematics doctoral research theses. Some of his former doctoral students have become eminent Professors in Nigeria and abroad.
The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) has served this University as a member of many important Committees. Among many others, he has been one of the Congregation Representatives in Senate for many years before he became a Professor and member of many sub-committees of Council. He served as a two-term member of the University of Ibadan Governing Council lasting for a total of eight years and seven months, representing the Senate on the Council. He has gained deep experience as Chairman of many important Committees of Council on many occasions. He took part in the appointment procedures of many principal officers and top academic and non-academic staff in the University. He served meritoriously as the Warden, Lord Tedder Hall of Residence.
Also, he is the second Pastor E. A. Adeboye Professorial Chair Holder in Mathematics, University of Ibadan from February 1, 2021. Furthermore, he is a former Staff Adviser, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) Campus Fellowship, and now a Patron of the Fellowship.
He is currently serving as the Regional Overseer, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Tentmakers Pastoral Ministry South West Region 5, Challenge Headquarters, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Prof. Ayoola is happily married with children.
He succeeds Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale who is the 13th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.
